Assemble with Care - DLC
Carmen’s Letter
Carmen’s Letter was the epilogue level for Assemble with Care that came out in April 2020. In this level, you play as Carmen, a chaotic but loveable chef, who wants to impress her sister by making her a fancy, metropolitan coffee. Unfortunately the new espresso machine arrives unassembled and you need to put together the parts before eventually brewing that delicious coffee and finishing it off with some amazing latte art.
This project was made at ustwo games by Lea Schönfelder (lead designer), Danette Beatty (artist), Thomas Williams (audio designer), Mike Anderson (producer), Adrienne Law (writer) and me (programmer).
Being the only programmer on the team naturally came with a lot of responsibility, and I carried the team through submission and QA. I had to wear many hats, and worked on a lot of tech-art and animations besides the main gameplay systems, like for example the pipes. I’m proud the most of the latte art phase, as it required a lot of cross-discipline collaboration, problem solving and custom tech around latte art and shaders.
Danette wrote an amazing breakdown on the art process behind this level, it is worth a read!
